Mission

Founded in 2008, Rugby Virginia is a registered nonprofit tax exempt §501(c)(3) organization and §509(a)(2) public charity dedicated to the growth and development of boys and girls high school and youth rugby in Virginia, while promoting an atmosphere consistent with the values of the game.  Rugby Virginia is a registered Virginia charity.

Rugby Virginia is organized under the authority of USA Rugby as provided in the USA Rugby Letter of Endorsement. USA Rugby recognizes Rugby Virginia as a Level 3 State-based Rugby Organization. As such, Rugby Virginia promotes and fosters the growth of high school and youth rugby football while educating the public and players on the game of rugby as played under the laws of World Rugby. Rugby Virginia’s membership consists of high school and youth clubs.

In practical terms, Rugby Virginia’s goal is to let “coaches coach” and remove the administrative, coaching, financial, and refereeing barriers that prevent new teams from organizing and the sport from growing in the state of Virginia.

The primary purposes of Rugby Virginia are to:

  1. Teach rugby to youth and high school age children throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  2. Develop, promote, and regulate rugby for youth and high school age children throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia by organizing local and statewide competitions, promulgating rules, organizing officials, presenting seminars and encouraging the growth of rugby.
  3. Promote and encourage teamwork, physical fitness and public participation in youth and high school age rugby.
